In the Mailbox, a lavishly-furnished and “busy” outpost of a national bar chain, tipped for its “large and varied menu, smiley service, and tasty and well-presented food”. [read more]
Great atmos - always seems nice and friendly away from the hustle and bustle of some broad st bars!!!
After a busy time at work there is nothing better then a beer or two at this bar. Great atmosphere and location add up to a good meeting place.
If Bar Room Bar is the most popular.... erm.... bar.... in The Mailbox, Bar Estilo is by far the most popular restaurant. Whether it be their lunchtime special (2 tapas for £5.95), pre-club bite to eat on a Saturday night, after work dinner and drinks or a family meal; people love this place.
The menu is varied and a wide range of tapas is offered. Food usually arrives within a reasonable timescale and is usually decent quality. At quieter times, the staff tend to be more sociable. At busy times, it can feel very impersonal.
Estilo focus on delivering an easy-going yet lively and sociable experience; Mediterranean style. They could think about their cocktail menu a little more. Considering their mains cost around £10, reducing the cocktail prices from £7 nearer to £5 would be a very good start. They are not a cocktail bar, afterall. Jugs of Sangria are offered - so why not cocktail pitchers? Why not buckets of 4 different lager bottles like Santa Fe used to do?
They need to inject a little more of that Med fun they are aiming for. It still feels like a chain restaurant. It is a little soulless. Bar Estilo's appeal lies purely in the range of tapas on offer. The people you choose to share it with will make your evening at Estilo - not the restaurant. But since tapas restaurants are not overly-common in Birmingham, this place is as good as any and is one of the more lively places to eat in the Mailbox.
It's always worth booking at Estilo, regardless of the time of day. Give it a try with some good friends.
Recommend to: All ages - couples, families, groups of friends, etc. for absolutely any occasion.
Dress code - casual to smart.... wear what you like
Price range - around £40 for 2 courses and a bottle of wine, or around £6 per tapas dish

This restaurant in The Mailbox is a favourite of mine.
With its authentic Mediterranean decor and low key lighting it is the ideal restaurant for all occasions – a romantic meal for two or dinner with friends and family.
Despite how busy it always is we have never been disappointed with the quality of service or food available.
Offering a wide range of Tapas, Paellas and other authentic Spanish dishes - everyone is sure to find something they fancy from Bar Estilo.
I definitely remind booking a table in advance if you’re planning on giving Bar Estilo a visit as it is very popular, especially at weekends – and with good reason!

Have been here on several occasions now - and i haven't been disappointed once. Staff are courteous, friendly and polite and work damn hard for there 20% tip which you are being damn right mean if you don't pay.Busy restaurant, but not bustling so you can have a party there with friends or an intimate meal - it works both ways.Food is obviously not fine dining but very good all the same. I recommend to everyone
We travelled from Oxford to meet friends in B'ham. We had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant/bar, before heading into town. The food was well prepared and extremely tasty, and the staff (although very busy) were polite and helpful throughout. Would recommend to a broad variety of socialites. I am already planning a second journey due to the hallumi on offer !

Always seem to have good dining experience here. Can get bit noisy at times but adds to atmosphere - can recommend.

This is a great restaurant and gets very, very busy on Friday and Saturday nights. In fact, it's usually busy even on weeknights and at lunch time. Although some of the food there isn't always to my personal taste (horseradish appears somewhere in most of the dishes!), the choice of tapas is varied, which is a positive. I have always found the food to be of good quality and served in reasonably generous portions. The only downside is that because it is such a busy, popular place, it's not ideal if you plan to spend 3 hours relaxing and taking your time over eating. I've never been asked to leave by a certain time - although that's normally because the food arrives very quickly and my partner and I have no intention of staying for more than an hour and a half. My advice would always be to book a table in advance. Otherwise, it's very unlikely you'll be seated- and if you are seated, it may take a while. In terms of visiting for a drink, it's not really my thing because it's just too busy and the bar space is a bit cramped. But if you don't mind busy, pop in for a drink.I work in the Mailbox myself and I always recommend Bar Estilo to customers who have never eaten in the Mailbox before. I have also met the manager, who is a really nice guy. Give it a try - it's definitely one of the best places to go on a night out in the Mailbox.

This is a great resturant, the food is nice and so is the service. I love the location.

We made this trip on a cold, overcast and windy day in late September and so felt justified in nipping into the Dog & Doublet, just above Lock No 9
