I have fond memories of the Ikon Gallery. As a teenager in the 80's I would come here twice a month (when it was on John Bright Street) and be instantly connected to the world of contemporary art.
Internationally acclaimed, The Ikon has lost not of its power to inspire and provoke over the years. Last year I saw the excellent Giuseppe Penone's exhibition, a powerful and beautiful exhibition of installations.
The Ikon is a great place to while away an afternoon, its set in an amazing building and the cafe is very good too!
An institution of gigantic reputation locally, Little Bay is the restaurant of choice for folk on a budget who want to eat good solid food. It’s a haven for council office employees wanting to kick off the weekend with their colleagues and the flotsam and jetsam of NW6. The prices seem to come from another age. You will need to get here early as it gets very very busy at lunch and evening sittings.
The food as I said before, is not spectacular, that accolade is best offered to the interior, a crazy Tim Burtonesque set where small hidden tables are found up winding stairs. The staff are friendly and there is a sense that this is a family run enterprise not a slick money making outfit, though make money this place does by the bucket load.
Please visit, at lunch time you can eat a meal for 5 quid, yes 5 English pounds! When you go, order the Fresh Egg Tagliatelle with Smoked Chicken, and Mange Tout, this would be a bargain at twice the price
I can't see this happening. This is a very shrewd move from Mark Thompson, publish a report that highlights cuts in the corporation that includes a small but highly popular station, this then whips up massive public interest and listening figures go through the roof. Next comes the large internet campaign and the BBC Governors and the next gevernment are forced to back down in the mist of public pressure.
A station that can play the Gorillaz, The Tom Tom Club and Goldheart Assembly back to back, is to precious to loose.
